You learn the fundamentals of the job from the senior workers and put that knowledge into practice

Mr. W. S.

Mr. W is from Indonesia and came to Takamatsu Kensetsu in the first cohort of overseas technical trainees.
He is responsible for laying the foundations for construction projects, operating heavy machinery and acting as a site supervisor. He is a second in command, acting as the right-hand man to his senior colleagues, Mr. Y and Mr. A. Persevering with Japanese language training (including technical terminology) and getting to grips with over 100 tools, Mr. W feels he is making progress with the help of his senior colleagues and workmates.
He holds qualifications in welding, gas cutting and construction machinery, and is currently studying surveying. Although separated from his family, he remains determined to obtain the Specified Skilled Worker Type 2 qualification, which is granted to highly skilled foreign workers.

What is your favorite place in Innoshima?

He looks forward to cooking and dining with his colleagues and sometimes goes to a sushi restaurant in Innoshima with the Managing Director, Keishi Takahashi. He lives in staff accommodation just a minute’s walk from the office, where he is supported by senior colleagues who are firm but look after him very well. "Working and living in Japan is enjoyable," Mr. W says with a smile.
